The concept of FundABook like most good ideas, happened during dinner with a group of friends participating in the Mid America Con II Convention in Kansas City, MO. in 2016.

This cast of characters was spearheaded by Dr. Douglas A. Van Belle, Andrew Pillay, Leo Genese III,  and D. Wayne Deshler Jr.

We decided that if we pooled our various skills, knowledge and experience together:  (Doug's as an author), (Wayne's as a Game Developer), (Leo's in Marketing) and (Andrew's in Operations), we could Promote Literacy, Understanding and Acceptance through books, art, games and community programs with your assistance.

Statistics estimate that more than $2 billion is spent each year on students who repeat a grade because they have reading problems.

our goals

Empowerment through Reading

With this initiative, our goals are multi faceted:

Phase One:  ACCOMPLISHED! Get books to children in hospitals and disaster hit locations in the USA by giving them never before published books to have as their own.

We achieved funding for our goal of donating 20,000 copies of our 1st. book, The Kahutahuta, by Douglas A. Van Belle, by November 1st., 2018 to those children.  For every $5.00 donated, we are able to provide a child with their own copy of The Kahutahuta to keep.

In 2017 & 2018 with donations from family and friends and friends businesses', and the Korean Pop band SHINee, we were able to send books to children at the Hurricane shelters in Texas and Florida via the American Red Cross and to St. Jude's; Children's Hospital of Los Angeles; Children's Hospital of Philadelphia; Jack Nicklaus Children's Hospital of Miami; Children's Hospital of Newark at Beth Israel Medical Center; K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital at Jersey Shore Medical Center; Bristol Myer's Squibb Children's Hospital of New Brunswick and Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone.

Phase Two:  Print a minimum of an additional 50,000 books for children in The Boys and Girls Clubs, After-School programs, and The Police Athletic League provided to them at no cost by July 2019.

With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for dealing with this challenge.

1).  CROWD FUNDING - In 2019, we plan to implement a Crowd Funding Campaign with attractive incentives that would assist us in raising the funds necessary and if lucky, more than the initial goal to allow us to expand our program internationally.

2).  TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS - As an IRS Certified 501 (c) (3) Charitable Organization, We rely solely on public donations and corporate sponsorship to cover the cost of $5 per book (+S/H)
